Original painting for the CASA of Lexington superhero 5K promo artwork, before adding text and event details. Ink, watercolor on Bristol.
One of my favorite recent commissions was a request by a couple to draw them as the Doctor and Companion. They’re expecting their first child and this VC painting will go in the nursery! Fun commission, and an honor to be asked.
The Annual Derby City Comic Con was a great show this year, and I introduced several new paintings, and had some great requests for creative commissions. Chuck Moore and his Team do an excellent job of organizing and directing this convention.
I’m very excited and proud to be partnering with the CASA organization of Lexington, Kentucky to create all promo artwork for their super fun Superhero Run this September. The artwork above will be used for the posters and shirts. I sketched the same characters (much larger!) for the 4th of July parade float, and volunteers painted them. If you’re not familiar with the work done by CASA, please check them out and support them however you can! http://www.lexingtoncasa.com/#!superherorun/coca
I’ve been inspired lately by Scottie Young, artist on Marvel’s Wizard of Oz and other titles. I really enjoy the sketchy look of his artwork and the motion his characters seem to have. I can understand getting that look with penciling, but he maintains it during the inking stage, too. So, I’ve sketched out a few poses of Ramone Cologne trying to get that loose feeling while showing more motion in Ramone’s poses.
